A Miracle!

Writer's picture: CreekSparrowCreekSparrow

The next day, Thursday, May 21, God worked another miracle. Mom called me around 1:30 to tell me that Dad was awake and she’d gotten to actually talk with him for about 20 minutes! Dad told her he didn’t remember anything about being hospitalized, and he’d talk to the doctor to find out how he was doing. Knowing Dad, we had to laugh at that! It sounded just like him—always trying to figure out what’s going on! My brother and I joked that Dad would get more info from the doctor (who we never talked with, by the way) before we did!

We knew it would probably take Dad a few days to really wake up completely, but we were thrilled!! I talked to the nurse later and she said she was surprised, too. Dad wasn't doing anything yesterday to indicate that he was understanding, and now he was talking! We also had no idea how it was possible for him to talk with a trach because a plug is required to allow speech. It was a huge miracle!!!

Before she hung up, Mom said to me, "I told you God gave me that verse yesterday, but I never dreamed He'd do this!" It was Jeremiah 33:3 "Call to Me and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know."

We knew that God had worked and we were beyond grateful. Even though Dad still had a long road of recovery ahead of him, as he became more and more aware, we knew he’d be able to participate more fully in the recovery process.

Right after Easter this year, I wrote about how much I love the 40 days between Easter and Ascension Day when I picture Jesus just "showing up" and amazing His disciples with His presence. And I had prayed that Jesus would just "show up" for Dad and work a miracle. Guess what day Dad woke up—Ascension Day! Jesus just showed up and gave Dad back to us!

This verse came to mind after Mom called, "Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all His benefits—who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases..." Psalm 103:2-3
